Abstract
In this paper I reconstruct Anscombe's convoluted dicussion on the notion of Cartesian substance. In particular, I consider her analysis of the connection between secondary qualities and whatever they inhere in when trying to assess her tentative conclusion as something that it is not feasible to get rid of the notion of substance.
