Abstract

The first stage of the developmentof Levinas' philosophy is expounded in this text: the one that goes from 1929 to 1947. Levinas' two main books are studied in this work: Existence and Existents and The Time and the Other. In this paper I intend to examine the development of Levinas' philosophy: its emergence from Husserlian phenomenology and an incipient personalism, to the first great work that Levinas' original thought presents to us, which I believe is The Time and the Other, which dates back to the course of 1946-7.
