Abstract
At a first glance, the German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe had little to do with philosophy; moreover, he looked at it with contempt. Plato however was —despite Goethe's first distrustful approach towards Greek philosophy— one of the most significant influences of his development as a universal thinker. A proof of this statement could be the Idee of his novel Die Wahlvenvandtschaften.
