Abstract
Already in her doctoral thesis, Malabou (1996) started to develop, based on a rereading of Hegel, a notion that will run through her entire work: the concept of plasticity. In this article, I analyze the main appearances of concept in the French author’s first works, in which she especially and explicitly establishes a conversation with Hegel, Heidegger, and Derrida, promising a concept of essence or form that incorporates difference without denying it. Although the concept of “plasticity” in Malabou’s work has undergone a turn, because of which it has entered into an open dialogue with biology and, more specifically, with contemporary neurosciences, in this article I analyze its status before said turn.
