Abstract

Higher education in Mexico demands excellence at the cost of physical and mental health, undermining academic engagement. This tension generates burnout and disengagement, highlighting the need to identify which dimensions of quality of life predict student vigor and dedication. The aim of this study is to analyze the predictive value of quality of life in its physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions on the academic engagement of students at TecNM Saltillo campus, determining the specific impact of these well-being factors on vigor, dedication, and absorption. The methodology followed a cross-sectional, observational, comparative, and predictive design, involving a non-probability sample of 830 students. Results from multiple linear regression models indicate that quality of life is a positive and statistically significant predictor of academic engagement. The global model explained 7.6% of the variance in total engagement, with vigor being the most influenced dimension (R² = .135), followed by dedication (R² = .122) and absorption (R² = .097). In all models, general health emerged as the well-being factor with the highest predictive weight (β = .276, p < .001 about academic engagement). In conclusion, physical well-being drives academic enthusiasm, necessitating institutional health policies to foster such academic engagement.
