Pragmatismo, democracia y conocimiento empático. De regreso a Jane Addams desde la epistemología política contemporánea

Resumen

En el marco de la recuperación del pensamiento de la filósofa pragmatista Jane Addams, este artículo reconstruye sus ideas sobre democracia y ética social a la luz de la concepción epistémica de la democracia, según se presenta en el campo de la epistemología política contemporánea. Se sostiene que, dada la comprensión de la democracia en términos de investigación orientada por una ética social, el aporte específico de Addams es la noción de “conocimiento empático” (sympathetic knowledge), pues expande la perspectiva moral y articula la dimensión intelectual y la dimensión práctica de la tarea política al tiempo que realiza y potencia las tres capacidades epistémicas de la democracia: diversidad, discusión y dinamismo.
