Abstract

This article analyzes Husserl’s discussion of Plato’s philosophy in Logical Investigations I and II. There, Husserl argues that one of the great errors of classical antiquity would have been to hypostatize the universal, as if it existed somewhere in the heavens (τόπος οὐράνιος). Through a reading of the aforementioned texts, it is concluded that Husserl’s criticism of Plato is imprecise, to the extent that he has a superficial reading of Plato, whose thought he knows fundamentally through the interpretation of Hermann Lotze. Thus, Husserl ignores those texts of Plato where he carries out a critical review of his own doctrine of ideas, which led to leave aside all hypostatic understanding of the universal.
