Resumen

Este artículo examina el origen y la función del concepto de “placer negativo” en la “Analítica de lo sublime” de Kant. Para ello, analiza su primera formulación en el Intento de introducir el concepto de las magnitudes negativas en la filosofía y muestra la novedad que este texto introduce en la investigación sobre los sentimientos negativos. Se exponen además las razones por las que Mendelssohn rechaza el recurso a las magnitudes negativas para explicar psicológicamente tales sentimientos. A partir del sentido que Kant otorga al “placer negativo” en ese ensayo, se argumenta que una de las razones por las que relega la “Analítica de lo sublime “a un “mero apéndice” de la Crítica del Juicio es que el displacer que ocasiona la experiencia de la naturaleza sublime carece de un fundamento trascendental propio.
